How do we honor the lives of those we’ve known, loved, and lost? What are your traditions for commemorating those who have dedicated their lives for a cause to protect, lift up, and create freedom in the lives of those they love? The tributes typically remind us of the person’s spirit, their dedication, and the beauty of their selflessness.
This year, for me , Memorial Day is also about the loss of innocence, the playful unfiltered joy, spinning, turning, opening, expansion, and freedom that dreams are made of …the ways we’ve learned to keep a lid on it, and to be careful. This year it’s about the lives we’ve lost to violent crimes, to distortions of perception, to misuse of power, to wrong action, to flagrant, blind, rigid beliefs of those who are in places of power versus those who are powerless.
We must remember the beautiful smiles, the organic bursts of creative visions and dreams of the children we’ve lost…we must honor their memory by lifting up our lives to meet their hopes and dreams for success, for potential, for love and growth within our world. They would want us to carry on in their behalf, to remember their memory with our actions of peace.
We wear and display red poppies in honor of America’s war dead which was a tradition inspired by an American woman, Miss Moina Michael. In the battlefields of WW1 it was noted that poppy seeds that scattered in the wind and sat dormant only germinated when the ground was disturbed - as it was by the very brutal fighting during WW1. (Old Farmer’s Almanac)
According to the Farmers Almanac, Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. Let us decorate the lives of those who we’ve loved and lost, and those whose lives we’ve heard about through the grief of their parents and loved ones, listen to the stories of the souls who invisibly surround us with their love and hope for a future of love and peace! We can honor their memory by embodying compassionate connections in our lives everyday, fighting for change by changing our own patterns of contraction and shame, and releasing that contraction to open to the beauty in our lives, the steps we need to take, the questions we need to ask, the love we need to share in order to bring peace and kindness throughout our land.
Blessings of peace upon those who have given their lives, upon those who have lost their parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren…blessings of healing upon us all… help us Dear Glorious Divine Universe to live from love, to act from love, to give from love, to lift from love, and to be in love within ourselves and those of all faiths and cultures. So Be It!!!!! ~ Love, Light, & Healing ~ Caron
Contemplating the essence of "Mother," I reflect on being a mother, and learning to mother myself. For me, mothering is part of my essential nature...one who looks after, protects, and holds the space for growth, embodied dreams, visions, and healing. While many attribute this energy only to women and the feminine, I've met many men who who have a strong mothering instinct - one that embraces, liberates, and listens. Being a Mother to my daughter is the biggest gift I've known. I learned a deep respect for honoring her journey. I've learned to guide while listening to something besides my own fears or will, opening to the unknown and embracing all the lessons mothering has taught me... mostly deeper and deeper levels of love for my daughter which teach me deeper levels of love for myself and others in my life.
Mother, the Divine spirit of unconditional compassion exists in each one of us. It's the part of us that honors the sacredness of our life and ALL life. She heals our wounds with love, lifts us to celebrate our accomplishments, encourages us to the next step upon our path. This Divine Grace can lift us to meet the challenges of life, kiss our tears, and stay awake lighting the path when darkness falls. Mother remembers, and offers refuge within the shelter of her heart. Her prayers, and resting in her arms for a few moments are a tonic for restoration, and can transform anguish and pain.
As we get ready to celebrate Mother's Day, connect to that energy of compassionate love within yourself. Listen to your heart, lift yourself to listen to your life so you may listen better to others. Take a few moments to breathe and awaken the extraordinary Blessing of "Mother" within you.
Happy Mother's Day to all ~ awaken this very necessary essential quality within!
Love and light to all,
