Last week our family suffered an unexpected and tragic loss. Marshall was my first cousin, a few years older than me, and when we grew up he was a regular part of my life. As adults, we celebrated family occasions together, passover holidays, and only saw each other once or twice a year. He was a special part of our family and his death shook many of us to our core. The shock, sadness, and disbelief that unfolded as we all found out and came together was unmatched in my life. His death was a true reminder of life's preciousness, the enduring memories of connection, and the extraordinary importance of honoring the individual gifts each of us brings to our family and our world.
The funeral touched me deeply. Marshall's siblings, friends, and children shared their experiences and the beauty of his life was palpable throughout the chapel. Heart breaking sadness was present...however, the sharing of personal stories brought roars of laughter and a poignant reminder of how our actions, gifts, and life experiences live on in the lives we touch each and every day. Like all of us, my cousin's life was full of challenges. Having said that, what will always be remembered is his Abundant Spirit, capacity for humor, deep connection to those he loved, and how he consistently showed up to meet the beauty of his life. May you rest in peace dear cousin, knowing the blessing of memories that you left in the lives you touched.
Blessings of peace,
